Think like Ramses II
Pharaoh Ramses II, also known as Ramses the Great, was one of ancient Egypt’s most renowned and powerful rulers. He reigned during the 19th dynasty of Egypt’s New Kingdom, from around 1279 to 1213 B.C. His reign lasted an impressive 66 years, making him one of the longest-reigning pharaohs in Egyptian history. One notable aspect of Ramses II’s rule was his standardization of the ‘ell’ as a unit of measurement of length, equivalent to the length of his own forearm.
This standardization of the ‘ell’ was implemented to facilitate construction projects, particularly the building of monumental structures like the pyramids. Using a consistent measurement system allowed for more uniformity and precision in construction, enabling the use of bricks from all corners of Egypt.
By 1800 B.C., Europe faced a chaos of over 800 different units of measurement, with more than 250,000 varying definitions. To simplify communication, collaboration, and trade, the metric system was introduced, replacing this multitude with standardized units like the meter and kilogram.
Yet, even today, legal professionals navigate through slightly different texts addressing the same topics, requiring continual negotiation and compromise. By providing an open and shared legal framework based on contract-clause building-blocks, Shareforce aims to revolutionize the legal domain by facilitating the development of standards in the field of legal documents.
